Taurus Mutual Fund was amongst the first few private sector Mutual Funds registered with SEBI. It was constituted as a Trust on August 20, 1993 in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Trusts Act, 1882. The Mutual Fund was registered with SEBI on Sept 21,1993 under Mutual Fund Registration Code No. MF/002/93. HB Portfolio Limited is the present Sponsor of the Fund with Taurus Investment Trust Company Ltd as the Trustee

Taurus Mutual Fund launched its first scheme – Taurus Starshare in early 1994 and the same is in operation even today. It was amongst the first few funds to receive permission for investments by NRIs/FIIs to invest on a fully repatriable basis. The scheme also received investments from IFC,Washington; European Economic Community, Brussels and EFM, UK. Other schemes in different categories were also launched thereafter.

In 1999, HB Mutual Fund merged with Taurus Mutual Fund by way of a merger.
HB Asset Management Co. Ltd. retained the amalgamated AMC name as Creditcapital Asset Management Co. Ltd. which was renamed Taurus Asset Management Co. Ltd. w.e.f. 21st April 2006. Subsequently in March 2002, Taurus Mutual Fund also took over the schemes of BOI Mutual Fund Presently shares of Taurus Asset Management Co. Ltd. is held by HB Portfolio Ltd. along with other HB Group Co's.

The road ahead...
Taurus is expanding in all geographies of the country. Physical presence in close to 30 cities in FY '09. Taurus is widening its product portfolio and has already filed offer documents for new schemes on the debt and equity front and expected to be launched shortly with approval from SEBI. In line with the expansion of its schemes and AUM, Taurus is taking steps to expand its investments team. Well respected fund managers, research analysts and dealers have joined to strengthen the existing team.

In line with the increase in AUM, Taurus has already commenced the migration of its fund accounting from in-house to Deutsche Bank, one of the largest fund accounting entities in India and worldwide. The custody of the assets of Taurus Mutual Fund will also be transferred to Deutsche Bank. Taurus Mutual Fund has also planned annual marketing and advertising campaigns to increase the pull factor of its schemes.
